About Judith Tankard

Judith is a landscape historian, author, editor, and preservation consultant specializing in the history of garden design. She is the author of 9 illustrated books on landscape history and her articles and book reviews have been published in Apollo, Arnoldia, Country Life, Horticulture, Hortus, Landscape Architecture and other publications. She served for 10 years as editor of the Journal of the New England Garden History Society and now serves on the editorial board of the Garden History Society (UK). She lectures widely in the US and Britain on Gertrude Jekyll, Beatrix Farrand, Ellen Shipman, and gardens of the Arts and Crafts era and occasionally leads garden tours to Britain. She served as a board member of the Beatrix Farrand Society for 10 years and recently retired as a vice president. She is affiliated with other landscape preservation organizations, such as the Garden Conservancy and the Cultural Landscape Foundation.
