ABOUT JUDITH FORREST

In an interview early in my career, a CEO said, “Judith, I want you to know that I’m a linear thinker.” I said, “Great, I’m a completely circular thinker.” He laughed dubiously and then he hired me. We learned that our differences made us more valuable to his team and to the organization. A couple of decades further into my career and I have only become more impassioned about guiding business leaders. My only client prerequisite is that you have some curiosity and the willingness to learn. I believe that for those of us privileged enough to have a career, we ought to take responsibility for what we can create together for the greater good. I take a holistic view of companies. They require a mission, a viable business strategy and measurable goals. But those needs are no more essential than trustworthy leaders, clear accountability, solid interpersonal skills and groups that are learning what it takes to become productive teams. Where it becomes fun is in how we address the needs of leaders and their teams. It is where my circular thinking shines. Who would have guessed that horses would have so much to teach us about who we are and how we lead? What happens when we break the routine, try something different and allow in new perspectives? We gain more when we get out of the office and learn together in new environments and then work to integrate it into the whole organization.
