About Juan Lua
As a former professional athlete and graduate of the Isenberg School of Management at UMass Amherst, where I earned a Master of Science in Business Analytics, I bring a strong foundation in leadership, discipline, and analytical thinking. While at UMass, I competed as an NCAA Division I student-athlete and served as an Executive Board Member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). My athletic career culminated in signing a professional contract with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League.I currently serve as a Long-Term Substitute Teacher at Indio High School, supporting classroom instruction, managing student engagement, and fostering a structured, positive learning environment. Drawing from my athletic and leadership background, I emphasize accountability, consistency, and mentorship. I am fluent in Spanish, allowing me to effectively support students and families from diverse backgrounds.In addition to education, I have professional experience in project management and construction operations, having managed residential and light commercial projects involving scheduling, budgeting, subcontractor coordination, and client communication. I also bring entrepreneurial experience from operating a startup painting company in partnership with Student Painters during the summer of 2023, where I led a team of college students and oversaw project execution and customer relations.I am now furthering my education by pursuing a Master’s in Education through the Alder Graduate School of Education, with the goal of becoming a full-time teacher and football coach. I am passionate about developing young people both academically and athletically and am committed to continuous learning and meaningful impact in the classroom and on the field.
