I never outgrew the phase that all children go through of asking why? My curiosity still guides my daily work in agriculture, which has been a passion since living on my family’s broiler and beef cattle farm.My career choice – dairy cow nutrition research – was inspired by veterinarians and agronomists and my desire to know why, and primarily how, their recommendations worked at the biochemical and molecular level.Today, I work with scientists, nutritionists, veterinarians, farmers, government, and NGOs to answer big questions about U.S. dairy farming and its contributions to the environment, economy, and community. I lead the Cow of the Future® project to help dairy reduce its carbon footprint through feed and cow management.The views expressed here are my own.
