As a teenager, I sustained an industrial injury while working for a large corporation—an injury that prevented me from returning to my usual and customary job. After being turned away by the workers’ compensation insurance company, I retained Oakland attorney Anthony G. Ratto, Esq, to represent me.During the course of my claim, Mr. Ratto offered me employment with his firm. That opportunity grew into a unique mentorship, where he guided my education and professional development for years to come. My own experience as an injured worker gave me a rare perspective on workers’ compensation claims and sparked my lifelong passion for helping others navigate the system.Over the years, I studied workers’ compensation from multiple angles—learning not only through direct advocacy for injured workers but also from claims adjusters and defense attorneys, gaining valuable insight into how the insurance industry views and handles claims. My legal foundation expanded further at Kuvara Law Firm, where I assisted clients with property damage claims, drafted case summaries and settlement proposals, negotiated settlements, and developed early skills in marketing and management under the mentorship of Neal Kuvara.In 2003, I returned to Mr. Ratto’s firm and handled every aspect of workers’ compensation cases, appearing before the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board in Oakland, San Francisco, San Jose, Santa Rosa, Napa, Sacramento, Stockton, and Fresno. My appearances included depositions, mediations, arbitrations, settlement conferences, expedited hearings, pre-trials, and trials. I also volunteered with LatinoComp, a nonprofit dedicated to strengthening the workers’ compensation community and improving the quality of representation through education.After many years as a hearing representative, I became Chief Operating Officer of Ratto Law Firm, P.C. In that role, I transitioned from direct client work to leading employee development, strategic planning, operations, marketing, and advertising.In 2025, after nearly twenty-five years with the firm, I founded Spencer One LLC, a marketing and consulting company dedicated to helping law firms grow through stronger operations, smarter marketing, and better relationships. Shortly thereafter, I realized how much I thrive in a team environment. In October 2025, I reunited with former colleagues and joined The Comp Firm, PC as Chief Operating Officer—where I’m focused on building my biggest success story yet.
