ABOUT JS MAY

John Stuart (J.S.) May, is the Campaign Director at Artists Repertory Theatre. He is seasoned fundraising and communications professional and has worked with a wide range of local, regional, national and international nonprofit organizations. He and his teams have helped raise more than $500 million. Specialties: Major gifts, capital campaigns, planned giving, marketing, public relations, annual fund, direct mail, trustee development, strategic planning, special events and cause related marketing. In true southern tradition, his sister began calling him by his initials before he could speak. He is an avid yogi, cyclist and reader. Prior to Artists Rep, J.S. led the development, marketing and communications team for Oregon\'s premier visual arts institution - the Portland Art Museum. Prior to the Museum, for seven years J.S. led the fundraising practice for Metropolitan Group, a Portland based social marketing firm that works to create a more just and sustainable world. For the six years prior to MG, he led the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital Foundation at Oregon Health and Science University that supported the growth of the region\'s leading pediatric teaching and research hospital. Prior to Doernbecher, J.S. spent six years as the director of corporate support for Oregon Public Broadcasting, Oregon\'s most trusted media outlet. A graduate of the University of Oregon, J.S. volunteers for numerous non profit organizations and has served multiple terms as president of the board for the Portland Schools Foundation, the Portland Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, and Cycle Oregon. He currently serves on the boards of Cycle Oregon and the Cultural Advocacy Coalition.
