About Jorge Sanchez

I’m an esports and higher education professional focused on building sustainable collegiate esports programs that elevate student opportunity, institutional visibility, and community engagement.Currently serving as Director of Esports at Converse University, I lead the strategic direction and day-to-day operations of the varsity esports program. My work focuses on recruitment, competitive success, student development, and long-term program sustainability. I’ve helped expand the program through community partnerships, high school outreach, and student-led initiatives in broadcasting, marketing, and event production, while also building pathways for experiential learning across campus. Before stepping into the director role, I served as Operations Coordinator and Talent Recruiter for Converse Esports, where I helped grow the program’s visibility, partnerships, and student engagement while managing arena operations and competitive infrastructure. My experience in collegiate esports leadership also includes serving as President and Events Director of Niner Esports at UNC Charlotte, where I led a team of more than 50 student staff, organized large-scale events, and helped secure a $2M state grant for a new esports facility.Beyond campus programs, I’ve also worked as Marketing Program Manager at Carolina Gaming, where I helped develop community gaming initiatives and collegiate partnerships across the Carolinas while supporting regional events and media content. I’ve additionally consulted with organizations such as FACEIT, the National Esports Collegiate Conference, and Discovery Place on esports initiatives, marketing strategy, and event production.Academically, I hold a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from UNC Charlotte and a Master in Management in Professional Leadership from Converse University, where my research focused on leadership models within collegiate esports programs.Across all of my work, I’m passionate about using esports as a platform for student leadership development, experiential learning, and institutional innovation.
