I am a Colorectal Surgeon and I have a special interest in patients with enterocutaneous fistula and locally advanced rectal cancer and complex inflammatory bowel disease having spent many years looking after the most challenging clinical problemsMost recently I was Chair of the Department of Surgery at Danbury and New Milford Hospitals at Nuance Health and Northwell Health and previously was the Director of Intestinal Failure at Northwell Health, Center for Advanced IBD Care joining the team in June 2024. I am a colon and rectal surgeon with advanced fellowship training in surgical oncology, vascular surgery and colon and rectal surgery. My specific areas of expertise include the use of minimally invasive technologies in colorectal cancer treatment, including transanal endoscopic microsurgery (TEMS), laparoscopy and robotic surgery. Prior to joining Northwell Health I was the Chief of AdventHealth Medical Group\'s elite Colorectal surgery team, and also served as Executive Medical Director for the Digestive Health and Surgery Institute, AdventHealth in Orlando. Under my leadership Between 2016 and 2024 the Colorectal Surgery program at AdventHealth was transformed into the largest such group in the South East of the USA. This included expanding faculty recruitment across the region and increasing the fellowship program threefold. In addition, enrollment into clinical trials rose more than 500%.Prior to my time in Florida, I served as Vice-Chair of the Department of Surgery at the University of Rochester, Rochester, NY from 20••••16. I was also the Chair of the Department of Surgery in the University of Hull, UK from 19••••08 where we built one of the largest colorectal groups in the country.I was an early adopter and pioneer of minimally invasive surgery and was one of those leading the development of laparoscopic colorectal surgery in the United Kingdom, and was the founding Chair of the U.K.\'s National Training Program (which became LAPCO). My research encompasses a broad range of cancer-related areas including the development of national standards and qualitative assessments of decision-making in cancer care. I am a founding member of the NAPRC at the Commission on Cancer and currently serve as the Vice-Chairman of the Executive Committee.I am passionate about several things including personalizing patient care and program building to develop skills and expertise. I havacted as an expert in medico-legal matters.In my spare time I am the host of the YouTube channel and podcast Surgeons’ Lives.
