About Jeffrey R. MacRis

Jeffrey R. Macris, PhD serves as the Dean of the College of Leadership and Ethics at the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. A former U.S. Navy pilot, Dr. Macris holds an MA and PhD (with Distinction) from Johns Hopkins University, a BBA (magna cum laude) in Information Systems from James Madison University, and a linguist certificate in Arabic from the U.S. Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California. He has over two decades\' experience in higher education. He has published two books and numerous peer-reviewed academic articles on the Middle East and leadership issues. A K-12 public education advocate and volunteer, Dr. Macris holds the 2010 \"Maryland Parent of the Year\" award from the Maryland State Department of Education. He chaired for five years the Annapolis Education Commission, and co-chaired, along with the Deputy State School Superintendent, the Maryland State Department of Education’s Family Engagement Council.
