   Part of the senior leadership team of the office of facilities management, the energy management coordinator supervises several teams, including: building automation systems operations, controls, maintenance, and repair technicians; a capital asset replacement and improvement engineering team; and an energy conservation behavior management and training team. In addition to the coordination of staff focused on conservation (the things people can do to reduce energy use) as well as efficiency (the tools - equipment, devices, technologies - people can use to reduce energy use) the energy management coordinator is also responsible for integrating outside contractor support of FCPS policies and guidelines regarding the reduction of energy through ESPCs and other available methods.At the same time, procurement of energy through cooperative purchase agreements such as VEPGA, MWCOG, PPAs and others is overseen by the energy management coordinator with the goal of reducing the cost per unit of energy while also reducing the number of energy units purchased.The management of both the use and cost of energy is important, and has always been the core function of energy management. As we move forward into a world where environmental concerns become ever more prominent, the energy management coordinator will also be focused on how energy used by the district is produced and will make every effort to shift towards renewable energy whenever it is economically feasible. In the end: Every dollar that pays an unnecessarily high utility bill could be used for a much better purpose: teaching children.
