ABOUT J. R. HEBERLE

I thrive working on complex systems (mechanical/HW/SW), delving into first-principles analysis as needed to achieve overall performance and reliability. After time in the utilities industry, I\'m eager for hands-on work with shorter development cycles.I\'ve led the building of a lab-scale thermal/fluid cleantech system—from block diagrams to detailed CAD drawings—and done field work analyzing tests at the world\'s largest CO₂ capture test facility (Mongstad, Norway, shown in cover photo). From these experiences I have developed a passion for understanding all parts of complex systems, and the importance of reliable sensors, data acquisition, control systems, and actuators.I have written software in C# and Python to overcome shortcomings in existing products, meeting interface requirements (through TCP sockets and files) and being mindful of UX. I\'m currently developing a handheld wireless product, with a completed proof-of-concept including writing embedded C device drivers for on-chip and external peripherals over SPI and I2C buses.Additionally, I have some exposure to semiconductor fabrication processes, including hands-on mask design and photolithography.Recreationally, I serve as a referee at track & field meets. This role is a top-level position providing oversight and guidance to roughly 10 crews totaling up to 100 on-field officials in the meaning of the rules of the sport and how to apply them in practice. This endeavor is systems integration with a system composed of people. It is a joy to see the light bulb go on when an apprentice official understands not only what they are supposed to do, but why and how their assignment fits in to the whole operation.
