About Joe Sutherland
At Wikimedia, I work to support the thousands of volunteers, all around the world, who create and curate the content of almost three hundred language editions of Wikipedia and its sister projects. I work as a conduit between the nonprofit Wikimedia Foundation and these volunteers to ensure they are free of harassment and are informed of policy decisions made by the Foundation. I also lead initiatives to ensure these volunteers are heard, and that the Foundation is aware of issues and problems within these communities so that they can be dealt with and solved.Previously, I\'ve worked with massive social platforms, and promoting engaging material that people want to share. Since joining the communications team at the Wikimedia Foundation, our engagement rates and post reach have improved by more than half. I was responsible for a banner campaign which reached one and a half billion people in a week.I graduated from the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Scotland, with first-class honours in Journalism. I have proven my ability to tell people\'s stories—whether they\'re fighting corruption in Nigeria, editing Wikipedia from a mobile phone in Nepal, or being recognised for their free-knowledge work in Armenia.
