Currently the Director of Schlumberger’s Investor Relations with more than 30 years of experience in international finance, 25 years of them with Schlumberger holding various capacities within its corporate headquarters and across its key segments and groups (Sedco-Forex, WesternGeco, Drilling & Measurements, Oilfield Services and Schlumberger Limited). Worked in a variety of global and geographical assignments in Asia-Pacific, Europe & Russia and North America and held roles such as Global Segment Controller, Area/Region Operations Controller, Tax Manager and in the last 8 years with Investor Relations. Prior to Schlumberger, 6 years of experience in the oil & gas audit practices of KPMG-Peat Marwick and SGV & Co.(EY), mainly in the Asia-Pacific region.Holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Accountancy from the University of the Philippines, a Philippine CPA, is a graduate of The General Management Program at Harvard Business School, and participated in advanced finance programs at IMD International, Lausanne, Switzerland and at Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

   I am currently in the Investor Relations (IR) function after many years in the finance & controllership function. I see this as a natural progression because my finance background blends well with my great interest in the company\'s corporate and business strategy, its technology and competitive strengths and how all of these play in positioning the company as an enduring investment proposition. So what is the responsibility of IR? My take on this are as follows:(1) Traditionally, IR\'s role has included necessary disclosures, such as annual reports, 10-Qs, as well as communications, press releases and conference calls. These are the routine and administrative part of the function and are largely coordinated with the key corporate functions in Management, Finance, Legal, Marketing and Communications.(2) There is also the relationship management part of the function where we have to work with the investment community, mainly with the sell-side investment analysts, the buy-side analysts and investment portfolio managers - all have their own take, their view and interest in the company stock.(3) And lastly and more importantly, there is the strategic part of the function that include the proactive counsel with management in understanding the nuances of the capital markets, how the company is positioned as an investment proposition, and how we can cultivate interest and investor confidence. The overall goal is to heighten management credibility in the capital markets, help management define the tangible and intangibles of valuation, deliver a company story, generate third party validation, and improve the company\'s exposure to potential investors - all to maximize the company’s equity value.
