ABOUT JOYCE EDELMAN

With over 30 years’ experience, my practice focuses on high exposure civil litigation, mass torts, multidistrict and class action litigation. I chair the life sciences group within Porter Wright’s Product Liability practice group as well as the firm’s Women’s Leadership Initiative. I defend pharmaceutical and medical device companies and have been involved in cases regarding a variety of products including IUDs, a drug used during coronary bypass surgery, antidepressants, mesh,vaccines, breast implants, spinal instrumentation, latex gloves, surgical clips, needle products and dietary supplements. I also defend a food and flavoring company against workplace chemical exposure claims.I handle cases in federal and state courts and have been involved in every phase of litigation including taking and defending fact and expert depositions, preparing and arguing key motions, negotiating with opposing counsel, trying cases and arguing appeals. Among my proudest accomplishments was assisting the Columbus Bar Association pro bono in its efforts to shut down an illegal trust mill scheme that preyed on the elderly citizens of Ohio. I had the privilege of leading a team of over 40 lawyers and staff in these efforts that resulted in the Supreme Court of Ohio fining those engaged in the illegal trust mill scheme nearly $6.4 million for their unauthorized practice of law.I’ve been honored by Best Lawyers in America 2015 “Lawyer of the Year,” for Product Liability in Columbus, Ohio; received The Columbus Bar Association’s President’s Award; and the Ohio Women’s Bar Association Founders’ Award.
