About Joy Robinette

I am an educator, curriculum designer, and instructional leader who thrives on identifying areas of need and turning them into opportunities for growth. My strength lies in taking complex problems where teacher capacity, system demands, and student learning intersect and designing creative, practical solutions that move everyone forward. As a Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) for Adult Learning and Instructional Support, I use data and design thinking to improve systems of teaching and learning across K–12. I collaborate with district leaders, teachers, and paraeducators to develop structures that are both effective and sustainable, aligned with contract hours, budgets, and the realities of classroom life while keeping student learning at the center. This approach has shaped a range of projects. I revamped the BEST Mentor Program, creating a scope and sequence that pairs new educator supports with instructional learning, goal setting, and growth. I designed a districtwide lesson planning framework rooted in inquiry and literacy that helps teachers intentionally build knowledge and revisit key skills over time. I am also partnering with teachers to implement new financial literacy standards through project-based, real-world learning and leading professional learning for paraeducators to strengthen differentiation and whole-child support.Through my Bite-Sized PD initiative, I create short, research-based sessions that fit within existing contract hours, helping the district meet budget and scheduling needs while providing meaningful, immediately usable professional learning. Recent sessions have focused on engagement through movement, behavior, deeper learning, and digital literacy.Beyond my district, I apply this same design mindset to partnerships with digital learning companies, helping them create tools educators actually use, such as the SCANS system I developed with Subject—a framework for analyzing primary sources that supports critical thinking and inquiry.Across every project, my goal is consistent: to design learning systems that make growth possible for students, teachers, and the organization as a whole. I approach each challenge as a creative puzzle, guided by curiosity, collaboration, and an unwavering belief that well-designed learning can change everything.

    Dec 2024 — Present

As a Subject Matter Expert with Subject, I work with middle and high school content, focusing on History. I serve as the Course Lead for the U.S. History middle school curriculum project, where I designed and wrote the full scope and sequence, broke the content into developmentally appropriate units, and aligned all lessons to state standards. This role also involves leveraging AI tools to create engaging, student-centered learning materials, including dynamic video scripts and interactive activities. In addition to U.S. History, I am currently writing content for Ancient World History and American Sign Language. I bring extensive experience in reviewing and revising instructional content, both through editing existing courses and providing detailed feedback on materials developed by other SMEs, ensuring alignment with standards and instructional best practices.I particularly enjoy jumping into new projects, supporting teammates, and constantly expanding my skill set. I am especially proud of introducing historical figure interviews to engage middle school learners, and of designing primary and secondary source analysis templates —now being incorporated into upcoming curriculum rollouts.
