As a strong writer and communicator, I have more than 16 years of media relations and communication experience. I have developed and implemented strategic communication plans to advance key messages and have successfully conducting numerous education and awareness campaigns. I also have an excellent record of initiating and leading crisis and emergency risk communication activities.Positive media relations have been established and are maintained. I have worked with local reporters and at times, national news organizations. I research, write and distribute news advisories and releases, as well as develop talking points and statements. I established Santa Clara Valley Medical Center’s Facebook and the Health & Hospital’s Twitter sites. Postings feature staff or program accomplishments; preventative health information; and items that can help raise awareness about current and long-term issues. With H1N1, I oversaw the development of the Public Health Department’s Social Media sites, which were the first in Santa Clara County government. Because young people were at greater risk for the disease, as well as for more significant health complications, Facebook and MySpace pages were needed as communication tools. These sites were part of a larger effort that included outreach through schools.While I can name more specific accomplishments, I believe my strengths are working with leadership and staff to determine the communication goal, writing and developing messages, and critically thinking through what activities and tactics make the most sense in reaching the stated goal for each communication activity.
