ABOUT JOSIE REED

I have been captivated by the concept of sustainable tourism since I traveled from my hometown of Toronto, Canada to New Zealand and Australia, where I completed my gap year in environmental community service and adventure-based tourism. Since then, I have worked and studied in over ten different countries, developing a more in-depth understanding of how various cultures approach sustainability, international relations, and education. I\'ve seen how travel can help people develop empathy for other cultures, form a deeper understanding of international issues, and foster a renewed appreciation for natural environments and wildlife. However, I\'ve also come to realize the current global economic model is unsustainable. Our planet is facing critical threats - climate change, overpopulation, and unsustainable resource use. I chose to pursue my Masters in International Sustainable Tourism Management because I believe in the power of travel, but recognize there needs to be a fundamental change in how we travel in the modern-day world. I aim to use my industry experience and education to advocate for tourism that benefits local and indigenous communities, inspires the protection of history and wildlife, and enhances travelers’ connections to the natural world in my role at Natural Habitat Adventures.
