About Josiah J. Sampson

An experienced educator, administrator, policy consultant, and public speaker. Dr. Josiah J. Sampson, serves as the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Tougaloo College in Jackson, MS. In his capacity at Tougaloo College, he is responsible for advancing the academic profile and purpose of the college, establishing the appropriate level of academic rigor for programs in its representative Schools and programs, developing and supervising new programs, increasing faculty and student research, and advising and mentoring faculty and students at the institution. He is an experienced and dedicated administrator and science educator at the secondary, undergraduate, and graduate levels. He serves as an advisor/mentor to both colleagues and students and has chaired several administrative committees at the secondary and undergraduate level. In addition to science, Dr. Sampson is active in researching methods to enhance science and minority education. He is a staunch advocate in the areas of student success and Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Dr. Sampson has passionately worked with University Marching Bands, advised several student organizations such as Alpha Phi Omega, Omega Psi Phi, Kappa Kappa Psi and the Pre-dental Honor Society, has been a deacon in his church and an officer in the Masonic Lodge.Josiah\'s hobbies include listening to music, Black history and art, social activism and community service.
