ABOUT JOSIAH BEHARRY
I am a researcher and scholar deeply committed to using education as a tool for equity, healing, and transformation. My academic work focuses on trauma-informed education, arts-based pedagogy, and student-centered research models—particularly exploring how systems shape the experiences of first-generation students, young men, and historically underserved communities.Beyond academia, I bring extensive experience in nonprofit leadership and policy advocacy. I have served as Chair of the University of California Graduate and Professional Council (UCGPC), and as a former UC Student Regent, where I sat on the UC Board of Regents and engaged in high-level governance, finance, and policy decisions that affect nearly students across the state.From boardrooms to legislative chambers, I regularly represent student voices in Sacramento, advancing issues of college affordability, graduate funding, student basic needs, and accessibility. I’ve presented at statewide and national conferences on topics ranging from education equity to public health, and have worked closely with community organizations and 501(c)(3) nonprofits on campaigns that center equity and systemic change.My leadership is rooted in storytelling, systems thinking, and a belief that research and advocacy must go hand in hand to drive real impact.
