Logging into the classroom continues to be the most interesting and rewarding part of my whole workday. And while I truly enjoy engaging directly with the students as an instructor, I am also the quintessential eternal student myself. So really, I am fulfilling my ultimate goal by blending my 20+ years of experience in the field of emergency services with the new and exciting changes that are underway in education. I enjoy working on a platform with students that come from the public safety sector and present opportunities that until recently have not been open to them. I am so excited to have central role on a team focused on leading motivated students to embrace the challenges of decision-making during a crisis. They are a special group - driven and passionate - and they deserve the best. The Kaplan fire science program combines a strong academic standard taught by experienced instructors and incorporates some essential, but often overlooked elements: the human factors. Compassion, empathy and understanding go hand-in-hand with preparedness, response, recovery - and all are critical components of an education in modern emergency services.
