About Joshua Pearman

I am a People Scientist at Roblox, where I work on key applications of Industrial-Organizational Psychology in the workforce. In particular, I take a scientific approach to evaluating and understanding AI systems at work. I completed my doctorate in Organizational Psychology at Michigan State University. My research interests include personality, team dynamics, expertise, psychological measurement, and metascience. My research has been funded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the Army Research Institute. I am broadly concerned with the use of computational approaches to understanding people’s individual differences, team dynamics, and the interplay between them to paint a richer picture of how groups work. I am also interested in leveraging technological approaches to psychological research, ranging from working with digital trace data and unobtrusive measures (e.g, audio transcripts, computer-tracked decision-making logs) to leveraging game environments to measure granular team behaviors (e.g, using replay demo gameplay logs in Counter Strike to study teamwork behaviors).
