About Joshua Cortes

Joshua Cortes is a Licensed Master Social Worker. He completed his Bachelors Degree in Interpersonal and Organizational Communication with a minor in English Literature, at Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU), He also completed his Masters Degree in Clinical Child and Family Social Work at SCSU. Joshua has experience in working with adolescent youth, adults, couples, & families. He also has had formal training and clinical experience working with individuals with: Depressive Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Behavioral Disorders, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Trauma- and Stressor-Related Disorders, Substance-Related and Addictive Disorders, Bipolar and Related Disorders, Personality Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, and Eating Disorders. The treatment modalities Josh predominately utilizes in his clinical practice are: Psychodynamic Therapy, Logotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Structural Family Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Feminist Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Task-Centered/Problem-Solving Therapy based counseling interventions. Josh enjoys studying Psychology, Psychiatry, Language, Psychics, Astrophysics, Cosmology, and Religion in his free time. For hobbies, he participates in mixed martial arts, boxing, making music, and is also a former competitive bodybuilder. Josh also creates therapeutic long-form virtual content on YouTube to provide his psychological and psychiatric findings in his research of the social work world. Josh is charismatic, empathetic, conscientious, forthright, & strongly believes that the underlying unconscious/identification of a person is always seeking to find equilibrium with the ego and the super-ego. Which is a state in which every working part of a person\'s psychology is in harmony. So that what they unify in construction, works at its most effective and efficient. As the great Clinical Psychologist Sigmund Freud once said: “A [person] should not strive to eliminate [their] complexes, but to get into accord with them; they are what legitimately directs [their] conduct in the world.”
