As Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship and Economic Development (CEED) at Idaho State University, I lead the university\'s entrepreneurship initiatives at the intersection of academic programming, community partnership, and real-world venture development. At the heart of the role is connecting people — students with mentors, ideas with resources, and the university with the broader Southeast Idaho business community.On a practical level, that means coordinating large-scale programming including the Freshman Shark Tank business pitch competitions each fall and spring, engaging over 300 students annually alongside judges drawn from local industry and university leadership. I also lead the High School Business Pitch Competition — a program I helped launch in 2025 that has drawn student participants from across the United States — and oversee the US Bank Pitch Off Competition each fall, supporting student entrepreneurs from across campus. Beyond the competitions, I personally mentor select student teams with market-ready ventures as they prepare for regional and statewide competitions, helping them stress-test their ideas against real business challenges.A significant part of the role is external-facing. I represent CEED and the College of Business in outreach to community partners, alumni, and industry, working to build the relationships that make experiential entrepreneurship education possible. I collaborate closely with ISU Marketing and Communications to develop outreach campaigns, branded content, and digital strategies that grow awareness of CEED programs across Southeast Idaho — ensuring that students, educators, and local business leaders see CEED as the go-to hub for entrepreneurial activity in the region.
