ABOUT JOSHUA SMITH
I am the General Manager of Dangerous Goods and Environmental Health & Systems on the Corporate Environment and Regulatory Compliance team at Delta Air Lines. In this role, I develop strategies across the enterprise to reduce risks from hazardous materials and environmental exposures. I am passionate about partnering across divisions to develop programs that protect Delta employees, customers, and the environment to make Delta a great place to work.I have spent my career with Delta in Corporate Safety, Security, and Compliance, starting as a Graduate Intern in 2006. Since then, I have expanded my scope and expertise to include environmental compliance across multiple media at all domestic stations, capital project and budget management, contractor oversight, and development and facilitation of training. I have experience interacting with regulators at all levels of government and have worked with our international business partners on product development. I led the cross-divisional Intermediate Response Team, in partnership with Emergency Management, during the initial months of the COVID-19 pandemic, while also being featured in national press and broadcast media. During my time at Delta, I has led several award-winning projects, including the development of Delta’s Hexavalent Chromium compliance program and a $6M capital project to improve the reliability of the TechOps Wastewater Treatment Plant. I have guest lectured at the University of Georgia and mentored thirteen interns, many of whom have gone on to have successful careers at Delta or other Fortune 500 companies.I hold a BS in Environmental Science from the University of Georgia and an MPH in Occupational and Environmental Health from Emory University. I am also a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time at the lake, cooking, and planning exotic travel adventures for my wife and four children.
