About Joshua Proctor

I build systems that connect engineering to business outcomes, and I get involved before the tickets exist. For the past 5+ years I have been designing and scaling distributed systems on AWS, but what I care about most is making sure what we build actually moves the business forward. I have been in the room with stakeholders helping shape what a product should do before a single line of code is written. At Red Ventures, I led the build of a personalized recommendation platform that now drives ~$1.5M in annual revenue. I designed a custom WAF that blocked 1M+ fraudulent access attempts and saved $70K+ in revenue. I caught a data integrity issue in a $300K vendor API before it ever hit production. These are not just engineering wins; they are business outcomes, and that is how I measure my work. I also believe strongly in raising the bar for the teams around me. As the sole backend engineer on a frontend-heavy team, I mentored three engineers into full backend ownership, including on-call rotations, incident response, and system design. I established observability and documentation standards that have spanned multiple teams. I do not just build systems and hand them off — I make sure those around me can own and evolve them too.
