ABOUT JOSHUA ONYANGO

Once it finally settled in that I would NOT be able to dunk or make it to the NBA, I started looking into other suitable alternatives. Since I found immense satisfaction in watching the incredibly creative Pixar movies, I decided to major in Computer Science as a college freshman at Oakwood University hoping to eventually join their team as a programmer or animator. A few months into my college matriculation brought me face-to-face with the mesmerizing ingenuity of the human cell, and just like that, I became a Biology major. As I pursued my new-found wonder in the sciences, I wanted to share what I knew with students that were having a difficult time with science courses as a tutor. This was my first contact with the idea of being an educator and it was invigorating. While at Oakwood, I also came across the National Association for the Prevention of Starvation which forever changed my life. It opened my eyes to the tremendous need in the world and how I could use my life in an attempt to curb human suffering. This realization brought razor sharp focus into my biology studies as I planned to use that knowledge in the practice of healing as a physician. I continued on to pursue my medical studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine which was undergoing several curricular changes. This gave me the opportunity to work with a professor on creating physiology modules to support the curriculum. During that time, my fascination in technology, animation, and education were all simultaneously awakened as I worked with different software to deliver the content. It was so much fun!I recently completed formal training at the Technology, Innovation, and Education program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education to better understand judicious and creative use of technology and innovative paradigms in science and medical education.If you also take an interest in medical education, basketball, or pixar, I\'d love to hear from you!
