ABOUT JOSHUA KRETMAN

As Counsel at Dentons in the Regulatory, Public Policy, and Government Affairs practice, I advise clients on critical national security and trade-related matters, including sanctions and export controls. In doing so, I draw from extensive legal and policy experience at senior levels in both the State Department and Senate. This includes my service as the Deputy Assistant Secretary (acting) for Threat Finance and Sanctions at the State Department, in which role I led the Department\'s sanctions policy implementation efforts, in close coordination with senior officials throughout the Executive Branch. I also served as Senior Counsel at the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, where I drafted and advised on sanctions and export control legislation and other key legislative priorities and led successful efforts to secure Senate approval of significant treaties. I served as an Attorney Adviser in the Office of the Legal Adviser at the State Department for more than a decade, advising senior officials on all aspects of sanctions and export controls, in addition to legislation and appropriations, international claims and investment disputes, international human rights law, and ethics.
