ABOUT JOSHUA HAMMERLING
TS/SCI, CISSP, M.S. Cybersecurity and Information Assurance, CySA+, Pentest+, Security+Never tell me the odds.As a young kid all of my friends wanted to be Luke Skywalker, I wanted to be Han Solo. It wasn’t that he was cocky and brash, it was that he had the confidence in himself to be bold and to take risks even if no one believed in him. While appearing rough around the edges at first, we find him to be trustworthy, loyal, and honorable. As I aged, I carried the traits I admired in Han Solo into what became an over 20 year career in the military as an intelligence analyst. I had the opportunity to serve four tours in Afghanistan, five tours in other overseas locations, lead teams ranging from five to 180 people, serve as a trainer and advisor to foreign militaries, and most importantly I had the opportunity to mentor and develop the next generation of leaders. I never shied away from a challenge or an opportunity I was presented, because of my belief in myself and the grit that I developed.Although I worked as an intelligence analyst, my passion has always been in computers and technology. I wanted to have recognizable industry standard certifications so I studied for my CompTIA Security+ CE exam for two weeks and earned it. I wanted to learn video and audio production so I started a YouTube channel with no prior video editing experience and built a following of over subscribers with over half a million views. I bought used computer equipment to build out different network types in my home, and to learn the ins and outs of configuration, security patching, and maintenance. After a year in a cyber security position I earned my CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst+ certification, and wanting to ensure I was well rounded, I took the leap back into college where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Cybersecurity while achieving a 3.97 GPA. After finishing my B.S. degree, I set my sights on earning my CISSP certification, and three days after I conquered that quest I began my Master of Science in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance degree adventure which culminated with completion in October of 2024.I believe I can achieve any task put in front of me through hard work, a willingness to learn, strategic decision making, education, and my favorite search engine.Fortune favors the bold, even for a stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking nerfherder.
