About Josh Raglin
As Chief Sustainability Officer at Norfolk Southern since 2020, I lead the company’s enterprise‑wide sustainability strategy—embedding environmentally responsible practices into daily operations to boost efficiency, reduce costs, generate new revenue, and reduce environmental impacts. My role centers on strong cross‑functional collaboration and meaningful engagement with customers, investors, suppliers, and railroad partners to advance shared sustainability goals.I joined Norfolk Southern in 1996 as a Forest Ranger at Brosnan Forest, our 14,400‑acre research and conference facility in South Carolina. In 2006, I became General Manager of Brosnan Forest, where I developed a nature‑based solutions platform that leverages our ecological assets—forest carbon sequestration, land conservation, and wetland and stream restoration—to unlock environmental value while participating in emerging ecological markets.A wildlife biologist by training, I hold a bachelor’s degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Ecology from Oklahoma State University and completed the executive development program at the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business.I’m committed to developing the next generation of environmental leaders. I serve in advisory roles with Auburn University and Georgia Tech and sit on the boards of the U.S. Endowment for Forestry and Communities and The Longleaf Alliance. My work has been recognized with the rail industry’s Career Environmental Achievement Award, and in 2025, Environmental Finance named me Sustainable Business Leader of the Year.
