About Josh Edwards

My intellectual development has roots in archaeology as well as geology and has taken me throughout the American Southwest. During my graduate career, I obtained specialized interdisciplinary academic training in soil geomorphology, fluvial systems studies, arid lands processes, paleoenvironmental reconstruction, and faunal analysis. My two decades of experience with archaeology of the Southwest focusses on archaeological survey, testing, and data recovery at prehistoric and historic sites throughout Arizona and western New Mexico, and includes projects in California, Nevada, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, and Texas. This experience is augmented by international experience in Mexico, Germany, Northern Ireland, and Peru. I have been a geomorphologist, analyst, and project manager for over seventeen years. My experience includes soil-geomorphic and geologic research, and faunal, flaked stone, and ground stone analysis and reporting. I am knowledgeable of Paleoindian, Archaic, Hohokam, Anasazi, Sinagua, Fremont, Cohonina, Prescott, Mogollon, Patayan, Paiute, Yavapai, Apache, Navajo and Hopi cultures, and the commonly addressed research questions associated with each region and prehistoric group. I have exhaustive experience on survey, testing, and excavation projects throughout the Southwest, and am also an experienced analyst. Although my background in geomorphology leads me down many environmentally deterministic paths of reason, I find that theoretical approaches like cultural landscapes and path dependent systems work well with my research perspective. I hope to continue to delve into topics related to human adaptation to environmental change in the American Southwest while continuing to enhance my knowledge of historic preservation. Specialties: Prehistoric Agriculture, Geomorphology, Faunal Analysis, Historic Preservation
