About Josh C.
I’m currently a freelance business reporter for the Daily Memphian, while also covering Baylor athletics for Baylor on SI (Fan Nation/Sports Illustrated), where I report on football, basketball, and other Big 12 sports with a focus on insightful coverage, timely analysis, and stories that highlight both athletes and the wider community around Baylor. My last role was as a news multimedia journalist for ABC News 25 (KXXV) in Killeen, Texas, where I covered crime, breaking news, city council meetings, and local elections. I secured exclusive interviews with superintendents and mayors, and my most significant assignment—reporting on the fatal stabbing of a student at Roy J. Smith Middle School—was picked up nationally and sparked wider conversations on youth mental health, school safety, and district accountability. Before KXXV, I was a sports reporting intern at the Memphis Commercial Appeal, where I covered NBA Summer League, SEC football, Memphis Tigers football, Mississippi State football (live blog coverage), the PGA Tour’s TPC Southwind stop, and high school football across the Memphis area. That role sharpened my versatility across digital and print platforms and built my reputation for fast, community-focused storytelling.I’ve also served as a beat reporter and podcaster for Sports Illustrated/Fan Nation Syracuse, covering Syracuse football and basketball, while hosting a weekly radio show and Twitch livestream for ESPN Syracuse. My experience extends across audio/visual editing, live interviews, social media content, and both on-camera and behind-the-scenes production.I hold a master’s degree in Broadcast & Digital Journalism from Syracuse University’s Newhouse School and a bachelor’s in Mass Communications from Prairie View A&M University, where I was a four-year letterman and defensive lineman. I was selected for the 2024 Sports Journalism Institute class, which further honed my voice as an ethical, people-first journalist. My work also includes internships with SiriusXM College Sports and ESPN’s Longhorn Network, as well as helping produce the award-winning documentary Two Paths, One Direction with USC Annenberg.Memphis, Tennessee is home. Raised by a single mother and shaped by challenges—including my father’s incarceration during my childhood—I bring a fighter’s mindset, a journalist’s instincts, and a heart for people to every story I tell. My goal is simple: to tell the right stories in the most compelling and community-minded ways possible.
