As a political officer in the Department of State\'s Foreign Service, I have covered human rights, consular affairs, and all manner of things Iran while based in Tunis, Ankara, and Istanbul. In Washington, D.C, I have served as an Iraq analyst in the Bureau of Intelligence and Research (INR) and as a State Department teaching fellow at Georgetown University. I currently teach political and economic tradecraft, economic sanctions, and diplomatic writing at the Foreign Service Institute, where I help my colleagues become more thoughtful, humane, and effective diplomats.

FSN employees are local residents of the countries in which we maintain diplomatic posts and consulates. They are valued members of our embassy teams, for they provide continuity and have language and cultural expertise.
