About Joseph Sweeney
Joe works with leaders and institutions on one core challenge: making better decisions under uncertainty. He is the Founder of the Decision Leadership Institute, where he helps executives, senior teams, and organizations integrate decision science and artificial intelligence into real-world leadership practice—while preserving human agency, accountability, and sound judgment. His work focuses on high-stakes decisions, complex tradeoffs, forecasting, cognitive bias, and the design of decision processes that scale responsibly in AI-augmented environments.Previously, Joe served as Executive Director of the Alliance for Decision Education, a national nonprofit advancing the idea that decision-making is a foundational life skill. In that role, he set strategy, built and led a professional team, and worked with researchers, educators, policymakers, and industry leaders to embed decision education into K–12 systems nationwide.Earlier in his career, Joe was an independent school leader, software entrepreneur, and award-winning teacher. He continues to teach and mentor doctoral students and senior professionals, with a particular interest in how judgment, emotion, organizational context, and technology interact in real decisions.Joe is a Fellow of the Systems Wisdom Institute and a member of the American Psychological Association and the Society for Judgment and Decision Making. He holds an M.A. in Mathematics (Villanova University), an M.A. in Economics (Temple University), and an Ed.D. in Educational and Organizational Leadership (University of Pennsylvania).
Experience
Chief Financial Officer
Jan 2025 — Present · Malvern, PA, US
I am part of the leadership team at JD Bravo, a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business operating in federal construction and government contracting. My role spans three intersecting domains: finance, technology, and strategy. I focus on strengthening the firm’s financial foundation, improving decision quality through better data and systems, and guiding long-term strategic direction as the company evolves beyond its 8(a) status. On the finance side, I oversee financial strategy, cash flow management, compliance, and capital planning. On the technology and operations side, I lead the design and integration of systems that improve financial visibility, project oversight, and real-time executive decision-making. Strategically, I work with ownership to structure partnerships, assess growth opportunities, and position the firm for sustainable, asset-backed expansion.JD Bravo is transitioning from a bid-driven contractor to a more durable, diversified enterprise. My focus is on building the financial, technological, and strategic infrastructure required to support that transition responsibly.
