About Taylor Mickenheim

During undergrad, I worked at the LSU vet school in the exotics department as well as the wildlife hospital as a student worker. I assisted the clinicians & students with emergencies, general treatments, & surgeries. I acquired from this opportunity a large amount of knowledge in zoological & exotic medicine as well as general health & maintenance for each species; the skills to handle, restrain, & identify many different species of wildlife; from which I grew to love exotic animal & wildlife medicine & the challenges it brings. While initially I knew very little about formal research, I have come find that it is the field in which I can foresee myself investing in as I progress in my career. I investigated the clotting mechanism of Bearded Dragons & through this experience, I learned how being organized & detail oriented are effective tools when conducting a study & working in a laboratory. From this experience, I applied & was awarded the LSU College of Agriculture Undergraduate Research Grant. My prior experiences allowed me the skills needed to head my own project investigating vitamin D3 & calcium levels in American alligators & I\'m preparing to publish this data in a peer-reviewed journal. There is no greater asset at this time than what can be investigated & validated in labs. Despite my experiences in research management & small, large & exotic animal medicine, there are many additional aspects of science that I am excited to explore. After undergrad, I choose to take my career in a different direction by expanding my experience in HR. I worked in the Talent and Acquisition Department for organization overseeing multi hospitals. From there, I moved to Austin Texas to be the Practice Manager for a small animal clinic. I was able to take both my experience in Veterinary Medicine and my experience in Human Resources and merge them together. During that time, I choose to pursue and old passion and acquired multiple aviation license and tracked a career into the airlines. After a year and a half into the field, my feelings towards flying professional and flying for fun shifted and I have now returned into the Human Resources to which I love. I look forward to my future and growth this field can provide!
