About Jozie Nummi

In 2014 I remember posting and reading posts about Michael Brown and Ferguson protests. Discussions on Facebook were heated and I recognized my passion for working toward racial justice in and outside a classroom setting. This passion turned into my dissertation topic. In my dissertation titled “21st Century Protests in Ferguson, Missouri: Social Media Impact on Protest Communication” I study the interplay between Twitter users, protest police, and news media coverage during protests in Ferguson, Missouri in 2014. My research contributes to new media studies, race theory, social movement studies, and gender studies. Currently I am pursuing my doctoral degree in Sociology at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.I specialize in qualitative coding and analysis. As an instructor I engage learners with diverse learning styles. My teaching pedagogy and practices achieve equity and inclusion in the classroom for Black, Indigenous and people of color. Trans and nonbinary topics, identity and communities are integrated in my teaching and course materials. Your company or university can benefit from my teaching experience in race and ethnicity along with my knowledge of inclusion, diversity, and equity initiatives.
