In my role at Texas A&M, I am called to facilitate, mediate, and provide restorative practices for a diverse range of conflict between a variety of parties, such as students, graduate students (including medical and law students,) staff, faculty, research scientists, administrators, department heads, and the Corps of Cadets. I mediate and provide conflict coaching for faculty, organizational, and executive conflict. The focus of my work is Title IX Informal Resolutions. This position operates within the Civil Rights & Equity Investigations Office as part of the University Risk, Ethics, & Compliance Office, and reports directly to the AVP/ Title IX Coordinator (AVP/TIXC), which attends to all Title IX, civil rights (protected class discrimination,) ADA, and other discrimination-based grievance procedures, complaints, case management, investigations, and adjudications governed by university policy and state and federal law. This office is extremely high-volume, managing an annual caseload of more than complaints and grievances. I also serve as an administrative hearing officer, where I am called on to manage and adjudicate administrative hearings for employees and students accused of university civil rights policy violations. This entails coordinating and convening the parties, attorney advisors, and witnesses, examining evidence, directing, and hearing testimony, and ultimately making termination, separation, and sanction decisions as directed by university policy. Additionally, I am called on to investigate, or support investigators in sex-based misconduct, civil rights, and ethics investigations, particularly in high-profile or high-level and complex cases. I provide advice and counsel to the Associate Vice President & Title IX Coordinator, Jennifer Smith, on issues concerning Title IX and civil rights compliance, difficult or sensitive cases, policy revisions, current higher education legal cases, events, and developments, and departmental efficiency.
