About Joseph Scott Gladstone
I am a business managent scholar concentrating in management education for Indigenous communities. My work extends across organization behavior, business and society, and management ethics. In the OB context, I am specifically interested in cultural influences on leadership in a variety of organization types ranging from NPOs, for-profit, and government organizations. In the business & society context, I am interested in societal influences on organization management and visa-versa. In management ethics I am curious about contributions from Native American and Indigenous cultures. My work is expanding to build an understanding about the role that management education can contribute to accomplishing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG\'s 8, 9, 11 and 16: Decent Work & Economic Growth, Infrastructure, Sustainable Cities and Communities, and Social Justice. The outcome I foresee with my academic work in OB is improved organization management across commercial and public service organizations, especially within both rural and urban Native American and Indigenous communities. The outcome I foresee with my business & society work is improved understanding about how successful commercial enterprises in Indian Country contribute to mitigating grand challenges in these communities. Outcomes for management education are improved strategies for teaching ethical organization management to minority students.Since I focus on a specific cultural context, my research draws upon multiple theoretical perspectives to facilitate understanding this context. My work to date seeks improved understanding about the relationships between Indigenous and Western cultural philosophies and how these relationships contribute to successful management practice.
