About Joey Reyes

Joey Reyes is a creative producer, fundraising campaign director, nonprofit consultant, and advocate for equity in the arts. Originally from Southern California and now based in Chicago, Joey has spent over a decade working at the intersection of arts administration, storytelling, and community-driven leadership. Their experience spans collaborations with leading arts consulting firms, including AMS Planning & Research, Evolution Management Consultants, A.D. Hamingson & Associates, and CNTR ARTS, where they have contributed to executive searches, capital campaigns, audience development, and strategic planning. Independently, they are the Creator and Host of Mx It Up, a podcast amplifying LGBTQ+ creatives of the global majority who work across arts, culture, and entertainment.A passionate champion of underrepresented voices, Joey has played a pivotal role in expanding opportunities for BIPOC and TGNC artists. From 2020 to 2024, they partnered with Long Wharf Theatre in New Haven, CT, co-producing the groundbreaking Black Trans Women at the Center Virtual New Play Festival alongside Artistic Ensemble Member Lady Dane Figueroa Edidi—the only program of its kind commissioning Black trans women to write, direct, and star in original works. From 2019 to 2022, Joey served as Associate Producer for The Sol Project, a national initiative dedicated to uplifting Latine playwrights. In this role, they supported the development and production of new works and co-produced SolTalk, a podcast featuring interviews with over 30 influential Latine artists, including Daphne Rubin-Vega, Robin de Jesús, and Luis Alfaro.Joey’s leadership and impact have been widely recognized in the field. In September 2020, American Theatre Magazine named them one of “19 Theater Workers You Should Know”. A 2018 alum of artEquity’s National Facilitator Training, Joey has been at the forefront of fostering inclusive spaces and advancing cultural equity in the arts. Their expertise in strategic planning, artist advocacy, and community engagement positions them as a leader dedicated to shaping a more just and representative artistic landscape.Joey holds a Master of Science in Leadership for Creative Enterprises from Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Arts in Theater Arts with a minor in Business Administration from Azusa Pacific University. Their work continues to center artists, amplify historically excluded voices, and build sustainable, inclusive arts ecosystems that reflect the full breadth of human experience.
