How many 10-year-olds can say they were into insurance? I started helping my parents out with the business as an eager kid, and I have been working to help people ever since.I learned about the industry from the ground up, so I have a broad understanding of how to give our diverse clientele what they need. Now as Chairman and CEO of Otterstedt Insurance Agency, I can plan ahead so we’re not just creating value for our clients—we’re building up our community.In developing a vision for the future of the business, I focus first on hiring talented people. They’re the ones bringing that value to clients on a daily basis. And employees who know they’re valued pay that back—to the agency and clients alike. It helps that we mean it when we talk about community ties: I served as town mayor for a decade, following in the footsteps of my father.I always like bringing people together—I think that’s served me well both in business and in my personal life. Outside the office I can be more relaxed about it: I love entertaining and cooking for others.
