About Joseph Nipko
I’m an executive AI and analytics leader with 20+ years building and scaling customer-facing machine learning systems and advanced analytics platforms in regulated environments (enterprise SaaS, financial services, and life sciences). I lead cross-functional organizations spanning data science, ML engineering, and platform/software engineering, and I focus on translating strategy into reliable, scalable products and capabilities.Today I’m VP of AI & Machine Learning at FormBio (a spin-off of Colossal Biosciences), where I own AI strategy and roadmaps and lead large-scale model development, deployment, and lifecycle governance (versioning, provenance, auditability). Prior to that, I led computational research at Colossal, and earlier I led AI platforms in enterprise retail optimization (pricing, promotion, assortment), and built high-performing teams that ship production systems. My leadership style is practical and product-oriented: align to the business objective, build the right team, execute with strong engineering discipline, and create governance that makes AI trustworthy and repeatable. I’m especially interested in AI that accelerates decision-making and user workflows—ranging from predictive/optimization systems to GenAI-enabled assistants—delivered with responsible AI practices.
