ABOUT JOSEPH MILES

I am a Director in Deloitte\'s corporate tax practice. My particular interests concern international tax issues, especially in the context of the policy outcomes arising from global tax reform initiatives, as well as the interaction between the British tax system and overseas, particularly in the context of the OECD Pillar Two tax reform.From a corporate tax technical standpoint my areas of focus are the U.K. implementation of Pillar Two, the anti-hybrid rules, the legislative provisions governing loan relationships (particularly unallowable purpose and financial transfer pricing), the UK’s Controlled Foreign Companies legislation, and corporate reorganisations. In a financial transfer pricing context I cover a broad range of group financial transactions. My specialism is in holistically applying evolving tax legislation (both in the U.K. and overseas) to complex commercial fact patterns in a changing economic environment.I was formerly a student at the University of Oxford reading Philosophy, Politics and Economics. I have a particular interest in Philosophy and the modern British political system. During my time in Oxford, I served on the governing body of the Oxford Union society.In my spare time I enjoy playing jazz music. I’m also interested in the ongoing redevelopment and regeneration of Leeds and the surrounding area arising both from local and national initiatives.
