Joseph Laverty is a managing attorney and shareholder of Wessels Sherman’s Davenport, Iowa office, where he focuses his practice on representing management in all areas of labor and employment law. His experience includes counseling and handling cases for management regarding employment issues involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, covenants not to compete, personnel policies and procedures, unemployment compensation, wage and hour issues and employee performance and discipline. Mr. Laverty also represents employers in a wide range of labor issues including, helping companies remain union free and dealing with an array of labor issues for companies who are unionized, including bargaining, handling unfair labor practice changes (“ULP’S”), as well as trust fund liability issues. Mr. Laverty has represented employers in a variety of employment disputes before state and federal agencies and courts and is licensed to practice in Iowa and Illinois state courts, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Iowa, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Central Districts of Illinois, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court.
