ABOUT JOSEPH CURCIO

Senior nuclear operations and project executive with more than 28 years of experience leading large-scale federal mission programs across the Department of Energy (DOE), National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), and Department of Defense (DOD) enterprise.Currently serving as Project Manager for the Blue Grass Chemical Weapons Destruction mission, responsible for overall execution of one of the nation’s most complex high-hazard programs tasked with eliminating the remaining U.S. stockpile of nerve and mustard agents stored at the Blue Grass Army Depot.Throughout my career I have held senior leadership roles across several of the United States’ most challenging nuclear and high-hazard facilities, including the MOX Fuel Fabrication Facility at the Savannah River Site, the Hanford Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant, and the Washington Closure Hanford cleanup mission operating under the Tri-Party Agreement regulatory framework involving DOE, EPA, and the Washington State Department of Ecology. My experience spans the full lifecycle of complex nuclear and high-hazard facilities — from design and construction through startup, readiness, operations, and facility transition. I have led organizations of up to personnel and managed programs exceeding $17 billion in total project value with annual operating budgets greater than $750 million. My career also includes experience across multiple elements of the U.S. nuclear and plutonium enterprise, including plutonium purification systems, uranium and plutonium recovery facilities, plutonium fuel fabrication infrastructure, and large-scale nuclear cleanup missions.Across these assignments I have developed a reputation for integrating complex organizations and executing high-consequence missions safely while meeting demanding regulatory, operational, and financial performance expectations.Earlier in my career I also served as an elected Town Supervisor (Mayor), gaining experience in public governance, fiscal accountability, and stakeholder leadership in addition to my federal mission work. My career spans multiple elements of the U.S. nuclear enterprise, including high-radiation operations, plutonium recovery infrastructure, nuclear cleanup missions, facility startup and commissioning, and chemical weapons destruction programs.
