About Joseph Cooprider
I am currently a Senior Economist at Amazon focused on causal inference problems in returns and recommerce. My work spans pricing optimization, supply chain economics, recommerce operations, and reverse logistics, applying econometric frameworks to understand how prices, promotions, and policies affect customer behavior in both the short and long term.At Amazon, I use big data and causal inference methodologies—including experimentation, difference-in-differences, double machine learning, and discrete choice modeling—to solve complex business problems. Recent projects include developing machine learning-based pricing systems for Amazon Resale, designing validation experiments for customer lifetime value models, and productionalizing standardized policy evaluation frameworks. You can see a video summarizing my work on pricing experimentation at Amazon at the INFORMS Pricing Webinar. I have presented my research at the American Economics Association\'s Annual Meeting (2023), INFORMS (2023), and Amazon\'s internal conferences, with my work on \"Science of Price Experimentation at Amazon\" published in Business Economics Journal (2023).

Lead a small team of economists to understand causal inference problems related to Amazon pricing. This includes customer response to retail prices and promotions in the short and long-term. It also includes estimating basket building and substitution patterns for customers when they are exposed to high or low prices. Used causal ML, optimization, difference in difference and experimentation to estimate these effects. These estimates were put into production to make pricing decisions for Amazon.
