As a medical assistant in the Canadian Armed Forces, I work in a dynamic field. All medics are expected to be capable soldiers first and able to hold their own in a field or deployed environment. On top of that I have two grades of medical qualifications. The first is military paramedicine, for casualty care when I am supporting other military units in their operations. The second is inpatient care which encompasses drug administration, history taking, supply management, and general inpatient care. These skills are used primarily in a clinical and hospital setting. Through this training I am currently qualified as a medical first responder, WHMIS and other chemical safety protocols, and in biological/chemical contamination casualty care. Beyond qualifications, this experience has taught me a lot about leadership, team work, and how to stay cool under pressure. And because of geography, working in Montreal has also taught me French.

ABOUT JOEY BRODA

As an engineer at FortisBC, I specialize in developing renewable gases (biomethane and hydrogen) to blend into the existing natural gas system. I have over five years of experience in operating biogas upgrading facilities, especially from landfill sources, and developingnew projects. I also have expertise in life-cycle carbon intensity calculations and integration of renewable gas sources into existing infrastructure.My mission is to expand the number of options available to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and meaningfully tackle climate change. I am strongly curious about ecology and try to use the tools that I learn from nature in engineering design. I am also interested in public policy, as combating climate change is as much about policy decisions as it is about technological solutions. I am always eager to learn new skills and collaborate with diverse stakeholders to achieve sustainable outcomes.
