ABOUT JOSEPH BIRKBY

Throughout my legal career I have been lucky enough to experience a number of different industries each with their own interesting merits. I have been involved in some truly exciting and diverse areas of law and have set out some of my career highlights below: • General Counsel of a private equity backed global technology company with 3 direct reports and reporting directly to the CEO. • Managing the internal legal function for the sale of BigHand from Bridgepoint Development Capital (\"BDC\") to US-based private equity firm Levine Leichtman Capital Partners (“LLCP”). • Managing global portfolio of high value, complex commercial contracts in APAC, EMEA and US. • Assisting stakeholders determining targets for acquisition. • Undertaking initial due diligence and managing the M+A legal work streams for successful acquisition of bolt on companies. • Leading the legal work stream of various successful bank refinances. • Building data rooms and packaging companies for exit including IPO prep for listing on AIM. • Creating tax efficient Employee Share Schemes. • Project managing successful mergers and business integrations. • Advising on global data protection issues and maintaining compliance with GDPR strategies. • Managing the successful resolution of various global IP issues. • Maintaining corporate risk registers together with sourcing and maintaining insurance cover. • Creating and developing various VAR channel frameworks. • Stepping in as interim head of HR to cover maternity leave. • Managing applications and renewals onto public procurement frameworks and high value tenders. • Charity fund raising for various charities including a “wing walk” for Alzheimer’s Research UK.
