ABOUT JOSEPH ALVAREZ

I’m a California-licensed attorney and tax professional with an LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown Law and an MBA in Finance. Currently a Senior Associate at PwC, I advise on M&A and state and local tax issues for high-value private equity, venture capital, tech, and renewables transactions across So-Cal, the Bay Area, Pacific Northwest, and beyond.My legal foundation includes deep experience in corporate and partnership taxation, SALT, deal structuring, and tax due diligence—backed by strong business acumen and real-world financial leadership. Before law, I managed accounting operations as a Senior Accounting Manager leading a 15-person team, and held licenses as a Financial Advisor (Series 7, Series 65/66), Insurance Agent, and Texas Notary Public.I\'ve worked with top organizations in their industries—Walt Disney World, the NFL via On Location, Anthony Travel, San Francisco City Attorney\'s Office, SEC and PwC—and earned recognition along the way, including the Paul S. Jordan Award for Service & Contribution and the Rose Elizabeth Bird Award for Professionalism & Integrity (the first in my law school’s history to receive both). I was also named the top-performing student in Corporate and Commercial Law and completed the Honor’s Lawyering Program.Outside of work, I’m passionate about increasing access to the legal profession through mentorship, public speaking, and student pipeline initiatives. I serve as a CMCP Ambassador and enjoy helping others find their own voice and path in the legal and business world.
