Jose Murguido is Vice President in charge of Architectural Services.As the Head of Zyscovich Architects\' Education Group, Murguido has overseen the design and planning for more than two hundred, public elementary, middle and high schools during a time span of almost thirty years. Murguido\'s award-winning designs have been nationally and locally recognized for its holistic and forward thinking approach to education innovation. Examples of Murguido\'s extensive experience in educational facility design include South Florida\'s first LEED(R) K-12 school campus, Pine Jog Elementary School and adjacent Florida Atlantic University Pine Jog Environmental Education Center, which already has received its LEED Gold Certification. Pine Jog also was named \"Best Elementary School in Florida\" by the Florida Educational Facilities Planners\' Association.(FEFPA)In addition to Zyscovich Architects\' strong Education practice, the firm is also internationally known for its extensive transportation and transit-oriented design experience, such as the new, El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá, Colombia and the Airport City Intermodal public/private development project at Miami International Airport. In 2008, Zyscovich\'s land use and urban redevelopment practice received the Florida American Planning Association Award of Excellence for its city of West Palm Beach downtown Master Plan Update and Urban Regulations.    As Vice President in charge of Architectural Services and head of the firm’s Education Group. Murguido is a recognized leader in educational facility planning and design and has been the principal-in-charge of over 200 K-12 schools in his 29 years with Zyscovich. His designs are recognized nationally for their innovation and cutting-edge ideas. He has an innate understanding of how to integrate teaching modalities into the design of a building to create a facility that not only achieves the educational goals of the institution but presents opportunities for new ones.Murguido is particularly sensitive to the importance of the creation of architecture that understands the significance of innovative learning environments and how this relates to the 7 C’s for the 21st Century Learner. His motivation is to create flexible learning environments that will morph as learning theories evolve so that the graduates of the future are prepared to invent the answers of tomorrow. He has designed a number of award-winning 21st Century Learning Facilities. Galaxy Elementary School in Palm Beach County is designed as a National Green Demonstration School – one of the first in the country that significantly integrates the curriculum into the building and site design. The school is intended to serve as a resource to other education facilities on ways to effectively incorporate 21st Century learning pedagogy and environmental stewardship curriculum through the facility design.He has also developed a program to inform educators and administrators on how to leverage the 21st Century design features to achieve the most innovative and successful results.In addition to a national video series on Architectural Design for the 21st Century Learning Facility, Jose’s recent speaking engagements include lectures on: LEED for Educational Facilities, Green Building for Public Agencies, and Hurricane Shelter and Emergency Operations Center Design at the Governor’s Hurricane Conference.
