About Andy Flores
Jorge Andres \"Andy\" Flores is an aspiring civil rights attorney, legal educator, and movement-builder at the nexus of education issues and political life. Born in Mississippi to Mexican and Afro-Panamanian parents, he is passionate about cultivating our nation’s public service pipeline, bringing people together through transformative dialogue, and making life better for people in the Deep South. He is currently based in Washington DC, where he runs the partnerships portfolio at the Public Interest Law Association (PILA) and manages the Youth Advisory Council (YAC) at the Aspen Institute.Previously, Andy\'s passion for policy advocacy and higher ed brought him to Vanderbilt Law, where he helped launch the Vanderbilt Policy Accelerator for Political Economy & Regulation (VPA). As VPA\'s inaugural special assistant and its senior administrative coordinator, Andy coordinated large-scale conferences and white paper rollouts. This work complemented his time at the Lawyers\' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, where he staffed the team of attorneys that defended race-conscious admissions before the Supreme Court of the United States in SFFA v. UNC.In 2022, Andy became the state of Mississippi’s first-ever Latino to receive the Harry S. Truman Scholarship. A maximum Pell Grant recipient and the first in his family to go to college, he went on to graduate summa cum laude from the University of Mississippi in 2023 with a B.A. in Public Policy Leadership (PPL) and Philosophy. He graduated 1st in his class, was inducted into the university\'s Hall of Fame, and recently starred in the university\'s \"Build Your Legacy\" commercial series. His breakthrough organizing feat was in 2021 when he founded HelpSaveHELP, a policy initiative that successfully mobilized thousands of students, parents, and education professionals in defense of the HELP Grant, Mississippi’s only financial aid program for students near and below the federal poverty line.Andy will be attending law school in the fall of 2026. Outside of work, he loves to draw, play saxophone, spend time with friends, and train for his upcoming marathon!
