As Community Relations Manager for the City of Champaign’s Equity & Engagement Department, I lead the Community Safety & Justice Division, managing a multi million dollar budget, a team of five, and 23 funded partners that include nonprofits, school districts, and government agencies. I drive the City’s Community Gun Violence Reduction Blueprint, securing millions in funding, overseeing competitive RFP processes, and ensuring fiscal accountability and program impact across all initiatives. My leadership connects high risk communities to critical resources, rapidly mobilizes emergency support for families affected by violence, and strengthens collaboration between local, county, and state agencies.I guide citywide public safety and crisis response, directing 24/7 incident coordination, hospital based victim services, and joint operations with police, fire, and emergency responders. I play a key role in developing the Mental Health Co Responder Division, guiding operational design, infrastructure build out, training, and hiring to launch a responsive, community centered model. My work also addresses homelessness through system building, shelter partnerships, and service expansion to close critical gaps. In education, I partner with schools and youth programs to improve academic achievement, social emotional learning, and restorative practice implementation.Whether organizing neighborhood cleanups or leading resource rich community events, I focus on building trust, advancing equity, and connecting residents with opportunities. I work closely with the New American Welcome Center to provide Homeland Security authorized immigration legal services and frequently represent the City in the media during times of crisis and high public interest.
